Out of the House

At THREE DAYS! "What are you thinking?! You and that baby go back home and get some rest!" are comments that a shuffling new mother would hear at any place but one... the "jam packed at 9am", hospital phlebotomy lab.

You that have had to go through the heel pricking with your babies know exactly what I am talking about. This is my first time- and Nathan and I are not amused. What the heck is billyrubin anyway? I don't even know how to spell that word, but I will just give it FOUR LETTERS for short. "BILY" I know that it has to do with the liver and that brain damage can result from too much. And I am thankful for medical technology, but I don't want a big hard, plasticy, glassy, lighted piece of medical technology sitting here in my front room with a requirement to place my PINK little bundle of joy inside.

We'll see if my attitude does anything to help (or hurt) the results of today's testing. Wish us luck.

This is all too familiar with us. Lindsey still has scars from all the pricking that they had to do. The morning after we got home we were back at the hospital. Along with all the other newborns! The hospital was the only place I left the house for the first week! Oh well, the lighted box seems to work and it eventually goes away. Good luck.

Oh, I feel sorry for anyone who has to go through the challenge of Jaundice. We've had to deal with Jaundice with both of our baby girls. We also had to have the "light suitcase" for a couple of days with each girl. All I can say is--'This too shall pass'. Plus, the more he poops, the faster the billirubin leaves his system. Good Luck!!

First congrats! He looks beautiful. I am happy for you. It's so nice to be not pregnant and to have a little bundle of joy. We had to do the billi test with Gabe about three times. It all turned out fine and he didn't need the machines but it was a lot of running around. I hope it goes well for you. My mom always says to put them in the sun a little. It's supposed to help with jaundice. I'm excited to come see you. We'll have to have the girls over to play Beka and Emma would love it.

Hang in there!

It's okay. Julia. As annoying as that box may be, it actually breaks up the bilirubin so that his little body can get rid of it. I hope he is feeling better very soon!

I do know what you mean! Gretchen was the only baby I had to do that with. Thankfully we didn't have to put her in the hard lighted box...hopefully the same will be true for you. What a sweetie pie you have!

Congrats Julia! I'm glad everything went well. The lights and the pricking are a pain, but they usually go away pretty fast. Good luck and hopefully it doesn't last much longer!

Way to familiar.....with each and every baby....lights on 2 of them at home, lights in the hospital....blah, blah, blah!

The good thing is, it does go away. The lights for sure help it to go away much quicker....it's just a pain.

What are his numbers at?

Good luck. Let me know if you need me to help with your other kids or anything.

I totally understand the pain of taking your newborn to get their tiny little foot pricked when you are so exhausted...not fun at all!! Hopefully he will be well soon. Good luck!
